A wedding is a special occasion in the life of a man and a woman, the beginning of a new life together. This event is closely connected with numerous traditions and customs that differ from culture to culture. There are some similar elements in the weddings around the world, for example the notion of a bride and a bridegroom, the exchanging of the rings and some other ceremonies. Most people respect and follow the traditions of their culture, even if they are no superstitious or they don’t know exactly what these traditions mean.

A lot of countries follow the western custom of a bride wearing a white dress. In Victorian era, the dress symbolized the purity, while the face veil symbolized the virginity. Considering this “white wedding” tradition, white dress and veil would be inappropriate for a woman who marries the second or third time, or for a widow or a divorced female.

Another widely accepted tradition is the one of exchanging wedding rings. The origin of it is unclear. However, it is known what the rings are believed to symbolize: their circular shape represents perfection and never-ending love, and the rings themselves mean the commitment to the future family, love and faithfulness.
