weddingWedding in the United States is big event. Traditional American Wedding includes the bride shower, bridal party, kissing the bride, the groom’s cake and the honeymoon. The typical wedding can cost in the thousands of dollars. The Americans tried to create the “The Perfect Day”. There are many traditions and customs, which Americans try to follow.

“Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue” it is the tradition wedding saying. And it is one of the most popular wedding traditions. According this tradition the brides should wear or carry something old; it can be family necklace or bracelet. Something old symbolized a link to the bride’s family and the past. Something new, the bride can use the wedding gown as the new item or wear a new string of pearls. Something new represents success and good fortune in the bride’s new life. It is represented by the couple themselves, as a new union. Something borrowed; the bride can borrow something from her mother or other members of family that is to be returned after wedding. A borrow thing can be a lace handkerchief, tiara or even bride’s wedding dress. A borrow object symbolizes love and support of family and friends. Something blue is an object that symbolizes faithfulness and loyalty. As usual brides use blue ribbon or garter. This old tradition takes her beginning from the Victorian times, but somebody says that it is even older than that.

The traditional white wedding gown symbolizes purity of the bride. The bad sign if the groom sees the wedding gown before the ceremony. Also it is unlucky to have fully sewn wedding dress until the wedding day. That’s why many brides leave one small stitch on the wedding gown until the wedding ceremony and sew it before leaving for the church.

To wear the wedding veil is very popular in the United States. In such way it protects bride from the evil spirits before the ceremony. Also the bridesmaids which surround the bride confuse the evil spirit. In a similar belief, the best man is supposed to protect the groom, until he is rightfully married to his impending bride.

Traditional American weddings take place in a church, where family and friends are invited. Here comes the best man, flower girls, exchanging vows and rings, and the wedding music. The wedding ceremony is conducted by the priest. At the end of the ceremony it is traditional for the priest to ask if anyone present knows of any just cause why this man and this woman may not be legally married. After that the priest asks the couple to exchange wedding rings and then the couple is pronounced husband and wife. Traditionally the newlyweds kiss to seal their union. This is the concept of Kissing the bride. As the couple leaves the church, they are showered with rice. Throwing rice is another American wedding custom that most brides want to incorporate into their wedding day. The rice represents prosperity, long life, fertilitylong lasting happiness for the newly married couple. Then the couple organizes a reception party where all family members and friends gathered.
