British weddings are very lovely and memorable due to their prolonged traditions which have come into being since very ancient times. The rituals of British wedding had been reformed at the time of the English Reformation when the church laws had to undergo a thorough change. After 1549, marriages were allowed to be held inside the church.
The Wedding Ceremony
The ceremony usually consists of two or three hymns and traditionally the church choir sing. When the couple enters the church bells ring, they peal a different tune as the newlyweds exit to scare off evil spirits. At the benediction, a square piece of cloth, the "care cloth" is held over the bride and groom. During the ceremony, the couple will leave the sanctuary area and with the Priest enter the vestry to sign the wedding documents. Also two witnesses go with the couple and priest to sign the wedding registry. Without this the marriage is not legal and of course the wedding certificate cannot be issued.
When the guests arrive for a wedding the ushers' duty is to hand out the correct books, flowers and the order of service, they also ensure the guests are seated in the correct places. Traditionally, the sits reserve: the front row usually reserve for close friends and members of family. Side on which people sit depends on whether they are friends or family of the bride or of the groom. However, in many ceremonies the bridal party will remain standing at the altar during the ceremony along with the bride and groom.
At the beginning of the ceremony the flower girl enters. After her appears the bride, escorted by her father. Everybody stand up and she entrance to the wedding march, often called “Here comes the bride” and than ceremony starts.
During the ceremony the bride and groom make their marriage vows. Marriage vows are promises a couple makes to each other during a wedding ceremony. Nowadays some couples choose to write their own vows, rather than to repeat after the priest. Most wedding vows are taken from traditional religious ceremonies. Touching love poems or lyrics from a love song can be revised as wedding vows. After wedding vows, the groom putting the wedding ring on the bride’s finger, on the left hand. The priest announces the marriage in the eyes of good. Then he allows the groom to kiss the bride.
